Materialism is running rampant in today’s world. You have to keep up with the “Jone’s”. Who are the Jone’s anyway? The average person has thousands of dollars of debt, and what to show for it? A sweet ride, dope house, some too tight clothes, leather boots…. REALLY? That’s the American Dream? Work my butt off to make two nickels rub together so i can buy…stuff that is one day going to find it’s way to Goodwill or the garbage. Nah, no thanks I’ll pass.
BUT what if you were up on a high mountain and the captain of the world told you he would give you all the kingdoms of the world and all their glory? And all you had to do was sell out and worship him one time? Would you consider? Would you be tempted to sell yourself out for the worldy pleasure of kingdoms, power, and glory over all the Earth? Well, when Jesus was in this situation after being weak from not eating for 40 days and 40 nights, he STILL had enough conviction to say NO. My man turned down the world!! He was tempted but didn’t give in. He refused to sell out to worship the power of things, and recalled our greatest weapon…scripture from Deuteronomy…”You shall worship The Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.”
Done deal. WE NEED TO KNOW OUR SCRIPTURE TO COMBAT AMERICAN AND WORLDY MATERIALISM. IF that wasn’t enough, i’m sure you want to protect your soul right?
Jesus tells us in Mark 8:36- “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can man give in return for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the angels.”
No pressure. Sell your soul to materialism,power, glory, or success, or allow Jesus to restore your soul so that you may enjoy the blessings he may (or may not) give you in that area.
